Discover your innate constitution & current imbalance through ancient wisdom

By Dr. Ravinder Kaushik

"Prakriti" — from Sanskrit Pra (beginning) + Kriti (creation) — is your unique constitutional nature, fixed at the moment of conception and expressed through birth. Dr. Ravinder Kaushik's chronobiological method determines Prakriti from the time of birth, when the dominant cosmic energies leave their permanent imprint on your physiology. This is rooted in the ancient Ayurvedic principle that the dosha governing the hour of birth shapes the body and mind for life.

The 24-Hour Dosha Clock — Determining Primary Dosha

Every 24-hour day is divided into six 4-hour windows. Each window is governed by one of the three doshas — Kapha, Pitta, or Vata — repeating twice daily. The dosha active at your birth hour becomes your Primary Dosha. This is the dominant force that shapes your fundamental nature.

🌿 Kapha Windows

6:00 AM – 10:00 AM  |  6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Born in Kapha time → Kapha Primary. Earth + Water elements dominate. Stable, nurturing, strong build, calm temperament. The world is waking slowly, moist and heavy.

🔥 Pitta Windows

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM  |  10:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Born in Pitta time → Pitta Primary. Fire + Water elements dominate. Sharp intellect, medium frame, passionate, goal-oriented. The sun is at its peak; fire governs.

💨 Vata Windows

2:00 PM – 6:00 PM  |  2:00 AM – 6:00 AM

Born in Vata time → Vata Primary. Air + Ether elements dominate. Creative, light, quick mind, thin frame, enthusiastic. The wind picks up in the afternoon; movement and change predominate.

Position Within the Window — Determining Secondary Dosha

Each 4-hour window is divided into three zones: Early, Mid, and Late. As time passes within a window, the outgoing dosha lingers in Early zone, while the next incoming dosha begins influencing in Late zone. Your position within the window determines which secondary dosha colours your Primary constitution.

ZonePosition in WindowSecondary DoshaEffect on Prakriti
Early ZoneFirst 80 min (0–79 min into window)Previous window doshaConstitution retains qualities of the dosha that just ended. e.g. Kapha Early → Vata secondary
Mid ZoneMiddle 80 min (80–159 min into window)Birth Season doshaNo window dosha influence — birth season steps in as secondary. e.g. Kapha Mid born in March (Vasanta/Kapha) → Kapha secondary = Pure Kapha. Born in July (Varsha/Vata) → Vata secondary = Kapha-Vata
Late ZoneLast 80 min (160–240 min into window)Next window doshaConstitution gains qualities of the upcoming dosha. e.g. Kapha Late → Pitta secondary
Each dosha window is exactly 4 hours = 240 minutes, divided into 3 equal zones of 80 minutes each.
Zone = (birth minute within window) ÷ 240
• 0–80 min into window  → Early Zone (secondary = previous dosha)
• 80–160 min into window → Mid Zone   (secondary = same as primary = Pure constitution)
• 160–240 min into window → Late Zone  (secondary = next dosha)

Birth Season — The Tertiary Seasonal Layer

The Ayurvedic calendar has six seasons (Ritus). The season of birth adds a tertiary dosha influence that modifies health tendencies and dietary needs. For example, a Kapha person born in Vasanta (Spring) has amplified Kapha — requiring more vigilance about Kapha disorders throughout life.

Shishira & Vasanta

Jan–Apr

Winter & Spring — Kapha dominant season. Cold, moist, heavy.

Grishma & Sharad

May–Jun & Sep–Oct

Summer & Autumn — Pitta dominant. Hot, sharp, transformative.

Varsha & Hemanta

Jul–Aug & Nov–Dec

Monsoon & Early Winter — Vata dominant. Mobile, irregular, dry.

Example A — Born at 9:10 AM in March (Late Zone)

Step 1 →9:10 AM falls in the Kapha window (6:00–10:00 AM). Primary Dosha = Kapha.
Step 2 →9:10 AM is 190 min into the Kapha window (160–240 min = Late Zone, 8:40–10:00 AM). The next dosha Pitta is already rising. Secondary Dosha = Pitta.
Step 3 →March = Vasanta (Spring) — a Kapha season. In Late Zone, secondary is already determined by the window (Pitta). Season (Kapha) matches the primary — it amplifies the Kapha constitution as a tertiary layer.
Result →Kapha–Pitta Prakriti with Kapha-amplified season. Sturdy frame, warm intellect, passionate drive. Season amplification means extra vigilance against Kapha disorders (congestion, weight gain).

Example B — Born at 8:00 AM in July (Mid Zone)

Step 1 →8:00 AM falls in the Kapha window (6:00–10:00 AM). Primary Dosha = Kapha.
Step 2 →8:00 AM is 120 min into the Kapha window (Mid Zone: 80–159 min). No previous or next window dosha is influencing — the birth season steps in as secondary.
Step 3 →July = Varsha (Monsoon) — a Vata season. In Mid Zone, season becomes the secondary dosha. Secondary = Vata.
Result →Kapha–Vata Prakriti. Stable and grounded (Kapha) with creative, light, and mobile qualities (Vata). Must prevent both Kapha stagnation and Vata anxiety/dryness.

Example C — Born at 11:30 AM in October (Mid Zone, Pitta)

Step 1 →11:30 AM falls in the Pitta window (10:00 AM–2:00 PM). Primary Dosha = Pitta.
Step 2 →11:30 AM is 90 min into the Pitta window (80–160 min = Mid Zone, 11:20 AM–12:40 PM). Pure Pitta with minimal secondary. Secondary = PittaPure Pitta Prakriti.
Step 3 →October = Sharad (Autumn) — a Pitta season. Strongly amplifies Pitta. Heightened risk of skin inflammation, acidity, and hypertension throughout life.
Result →Pure Pitta Prakriti — Sharad amplified. Sharp intellect, competitive, medium build, strong digestion. Cooling diet and avoiding excess heat/spice is lifelong medicine.

Note: Chronobiological Prakriti assessment is Dr. Ravinder Kaushik's specialised method combining classical Ayurvedic time science (Kala Vignana) with dosha theory. For a complete constitutional diagnosis including Nadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis), in-person consultation is recommended.

✦ Vikruti — Current Imbalance Analysis

Vikruti represents your current state — the imbalances you have accumulated due to diet, lifestyle, stress, seasons, and life events. Unlike Prakriti (your permanent constitution), Vikruti can be corrected through appropriate Ayurvedic interventions.

Answer each question based on how you have been feeling in the last 2–4 weeks. Select None, Mild, or Severe for each symptom.
